South Essex College has sought to find practical ways to make use of ICT to support teaching and learning. Our intranet - C Space - has over a million pages and is used by around 4000 staff and learners every month, both in College and at home and work. Our users tell us that the system is useful in supporting their studies and staff routinely make use of the tools available to plan their sessions and distribute resources.

C Space is also the primary means for communicating management information to staff and there is an increasing synergy between our advanced web-based MIS reporting tools and our ILT systems. This allows for the distribution of data directly to students such as timetables, attendance data, schemes of work and Individual Learning Plans.

A recent survey on students' use of C Space demonstrated:

• 63% of students use C Space everyday they attend College
• 94% of students use C Space every week
• 68% of students agree that they find their online course plan useful in supporting them in their studies
• 81% of tutors ask their students to use resources found on C Space
• 68% of students use C Space outside of timetable sessions
• 44% of students access C Space from home
