Moore’s law explains that the speed of change in the world of ICT is accelerating exponentially. This means we have to be running fast just to stand still. In this section of ICTHorizons.com we will keep track of changes affecting the way we think, work and learn and provide information about some of our current developments and projects.
Current research areas:
iLrn: Mobile Learning
The College is looking to increase students use of distance learning. iLrn is a project to share learning resources, course information and more via a mobile device.
seeK: Managable Twitter style communications for students
Social Networking sites always present a problem for colleges: students love them while staff are worried about the inherent child protection issues. seeK is a project designed to give students what they want (the ability to chat/message friends etc) whilst doing so in a secure, managable enviroment.
seeSpace: Web controls to enhance C Space:
A good intranet should evolve with its users. Over the last eleven years C Space has increased its focus on learner engadgement. This project continues this theme via web controls and widgets to enable students to create a more personilised version of C Space.
Grade Tracker
We're always keen to develop systems which are driven by learner suggestions and expectations. Recent learner surveys and forum discussions on how C Space could be improved revealed that learners would appreciate the integration of a system that would record and update their assignment and unit grades as their course progressed.
