Twitter is a new kind of social networking site that allows users to quickly update and share information. A number of teams are using Twitter in and outside of College to promote the use of ICT and inform all staff of current ICT engagement projects and activities.
Why use twitter when you can email?
The ILS Team recieves well over 100/200 emails a day, even with rules to distribute messages, managing messages and communications can sometimes be a little tricy, Twitter allows us to quickly share content and information that might otherwise get lost in the post.
Can students use it?
We are currently researching the benefits twitter style communications may provide to teaching and learning, currently we are creating our own communications tool that will allow staff and students to communicate within a controlled and secure enviroment. It is envisaged that lectures will be able to contact their students far quicker than if they were using email, even more so when some students have not enabled or do not regularly check their college email account.
